Keystone XL Protesters Say They're 'Scared for Their Lives'; TransCanada Denies Wrongdoing

An increased police presence and alleged use of intimidation techniques at an anti-Keystone XL pipeline blockade in northeast Texas are sparking fears among the protesters, InsideClimate News was told.

"Folks have been scared for their lives," said Ron Seifert, a spokesperson for the Tar Sands Blockade, the activist organization leading the protest.

For nine days, Seifert and about two dozen other activists have been living under plastic tarps on land and in 80-foot-high tree platforms. The protesters are trying to stop construction of the Keystone XL pipeline's southern leg, renamed the Gulf Coast Pipeline Project, and to rally activists across the country to block other parts of the route.
