Philly Facing Eviction Today

Philly Facing Eviction Today  -

Also Occupy Long Beach (California) being evicted today!

Occupy Philly has been occupying Dilworth Plaza for months. Weeks ago, Mayor Nutter and the City offered Occupy Philly a "compromise" by promising to issue a permit for protesters to stay in Thomas Paine Plaza between the hours of 9am to 7pm, with no tents.

Protest movements should not have curfews. Seeking justice is not a 9 to 5 activity. We believe, in solidarity with the occupiers of Dilworth Plaza, that we have a fundamental right to protest safely and free from repression 24-hours a day.

Additionally, because of corporate greed and vast economic disparity, many Occupiers are actually homeless. We can't simply "give up our tents" and go home. Occupy Philly has decided to stand with homeless people by rejecting the City's unfair proposal.

We are not only protesting inequality. We are also creating new political structures, new ways of living together, and new ways of supporting each other. And we will not be made invisible.
