Hungary has taken a bold stand against biotech giant Monsanto and genetic modification by destroying 1000 acres of maize found to have been grown with genetically modified seeds, according to Hungary deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar.
Unlike many European Union countries, Hungary is a nation where
genetically modified (GM) seeds are banned. In a similar stance against
GM ingredients, Peru has also passed a 10 year ban on GM foods.
Almost 1000 acres of maize found to have been ground with genetically
modified seeds have been destroyed throughout Hungary, deputy state
secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar said. The
GMO maize has been ploughed under, said Lajos Bognar, but pollen has not
spread from the maize, he added.

'You Can't Evict an Idea: What Can We Learn From Occupy?' by Tim Gee
On 28 February 2013, the anniversary of the eviction of the Occupy Camp at the London Stock Exchange, Housmans published Tim Gee's 'You Can't Evict an Idea', available as a free PDF e-book and as a physical booklet.
Based on conversations with activists across the UK and US,'You Can't Evict an Idea' is a first-hand account of the Occupy movement, an assessment of the impacts, and an argument about what can be learnt.

Toxic Chemicals and the Rise of Childhood Cancer: What is the Relationship?
Since 1975 cancer in American children has increased, especially childhood leukemia and brain cancer.
Meanwhile, 80,000 chemicals have been produced in the U.S. to create commonly-used products, which include known carcinogens such as asbestos, formaldehyde, lead, cadmium, trichloroethylene, and vinyl chloride, with virtually no government oversight.
The use of toxic chemicals has risen dramatically in the last 50 years to a point that they are now ubiquitous in human bodies and our environment. Although it is not clear exactly why these childhood cancers are on the rise, a substantial and growing body of evidence suggests that these chemicals may play a role.

Rising Resistance: New Film Explores Superbug Spread As Health Concerns Grow
From Huff Post Green
A new documentary aims to address an issue that "affects millions of people around the world and impacts everything from the sustainability of our food supply to the safety of our schools," according to a pitch video posted on Kickstarter.
"Resistance" filmmaker Michael Graziano goes on to point out that more people in the U.S. die from antibiotic-resistant infections than die from HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, emphysema, Parkinson's disease and homicides combined.
Based on the latest news, things are only getting worse.

'Citizen tide' of protests swamps cities in Spain
Spaniards furious at hardship and corruption scandals in the financial crisis massed in cities across the country on Saturday in a "citizens' tide" of protests.
Thousands converged in central Madrid in a din of drums and whistles, in one of scores of demonstrations called by a grouping of civil movements.
"We have come because of it all - unemployment, corrupt politicians, the young people who have no future - it's a combination of everything," said Luis Mora, 55, a construction worker.
He was demonstrating in Madrid with his brothers and sisters who work in the health sector - one of the areas hit with salary and budget cuts in the recession.

Questioning Prompts Anger From Wall Street
Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-Mass.) meeting with bank regulators Thursday left bankers reeling, after she questioned why regulators had not prosecuted a bank since the financial crisis.
At one point, Warren asked why the book value of big banks was lower, when most corporations trade above book value, saying there could be only two reasons for it.
"One would be because nobody believes that the banks' books are honest," she said. "Second, would be that nobody believes that the banks are really manageable. That is, if they are too complex either for their own institutions to manage them or for the regulators to manage them."
That set off angry responses to Politico's Morning Money. "While Senator Warren had every right to ask pointed questions at today's Senate Banking Committee hearing, her claim that 'nobody believes' that bank books are honest is just plain wrong," a "top executive" emailed the financial newsletter. "Perhaps someone ought to remind the Senator that the campaign is over and she should act accordingly if she wants to be taken seriously."
Bankers and other members of the finance community have opposed Warren as she rose from being a Harvard University law school professor to a Massachusetts senator. They opposed her permanent nomination to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which she created.
After Senate Republicans said that they would filibuster her nomination, she ran for Senate in Massachusetts. Wall Street donated heavily to her opponent, former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), but she won the seat. Warren became a member of the Senate Banking Committee, despite further heavy opposition from banking lobbyists.

Profiting from Your Thirst as Global Elite Rush to Control Water Worldwide
A disturbing trend in the water sector is accelerating worldwide.
The new “water barons” — the Wall Street banks and elitist multibillionaires — are buying up water all over the world at unprecedented pace. Familiar mega-banks and investing powerhouses such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, UBS, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Macquarie Bank, Barclays Bank, the Blackstone Group, Allianz, and HSBC Bank, among others, are consolidating their control over water.
Wealthy tycoons such as T. Boone Pickens, former President George H.W. Bush and his family, Hong Kong’s Li Ka-shing, Philippines’ Manuel V. Pangilinan and other Filipino billionaires, and others are also buying thousands of acres of land with aquifers, lakes, water rights, water utilities, and shares in water engineering and technology companies all over the world.
The second disturbing trend is that while the new water barons are buying up water all over the world, governments are moving fast to limit citizens’ ability to become water self-sufficient (as evidenced by the well-publicized Gary Harrington’s case in Oregon, in which the state criminalized the collection of rainwater in three ponds located on his private land, by convicting him on nine counts and sentencing him for 30 days in jail).
Let’s put this criminalization in perspective:
Billionaire T. Boone Pickens owned more water rights than any other individuals in America, with rights over enough of the Ogallala Aquifer to drain approximately 200,000 acre-feet (or 65 billion gallons of water) a year. But ordinary citizen Gary Harrington cannot collect rainwater runoff on 170 acres of his private land.
It’s a strange New World Order in which multibillionaires and elitist banks can own aquifers and lakes, but ordinary citizens cannot even collect rainwater and snow runoff in their own backyards and private lands.

Eisenhower and Kennedy Blow The Whistle: The Military Industrial Complex
The military industrial complex is a phrase used to identify the department of defense and its relationship with the political, corporate, and financial worlds as well as other branches within the government.
It usually refers to the multinational corporations and private contractors (like Lockheed Martin) that military agencies use to develop, plan and build whatever it is they desire with regards to technology, deep underground military bases and more.
There is a separate global power structure on Earth that supersedes the government, and is much more advanced in its understanding of scientific development, and the true nature of reality.
When it comes to global matters that involve military, financial and corporate interests, or anything involving the health, pharmaceutical and energy industry, decisions and cover ups are implemented by this power structure by using the resources available to them like the CIA, NSA, FBI, Navy, Army and Air Force.
When military mixes with industry, coupled with classification of information in order to in slave and control the human race, it creates a not so desirable combination.
Some within the bottom of this pyramidal power structure tried to warn us, like president Dwight Eisenhower in his fair well speech as president in 1961. Here he warns of a separate entity that has more power over decision making and policy than the government does.
He warms us about the influential power this separate entity has,and its ability to heavily influence what it desires to accomplish.
Do we really face any threats? I don’t think so, events are created in order to justify certain actions, as well as create fear within the human race and push a false sense of patriotism. It’s no coincidence that all of our mainstream media is owned by less than 5 corporations, and those corporations all have ties to the military industrial complex, we have literally been brainwashed.

Bangladesh Mass dissatisfaction
THEY are the biggest rallies in Bangladesh for at least two decades.
Hundreds of thousands of protesters gather peacefully each day in Dhaka, the capital, demanding vengeance against a bearded political figure, Abdul Quader Mollah.
Their numbers swell daily: ordinary people furious that, despite his conviction for dreadful crimes during Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971, Mr Mollah faces only a life sentence.
The rallies began on February 5th after online activists called for protests at Shahbag, a busy intersection in central Dhaka.
They want Mr Mollah and others on trial to face the death penalty. He was convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal, a local court set up by the government of Sheikh Hasina to prosecute men, largely from an Islamic opposition party, accused of murder, torture, rape and other wartime atrocities.
When, somewhat unexpectedly, Mr Mollah was spared a death sentence, he was seen flicking supporters a V-for-victory sign. That smug gesture may have helped to provoke the outrage.

Walmart's British Supermarket 'Asda' Finds Horse DNA In Bolognese Sauce, Pulls Products
Wal-Mart Stores Inc's British supermarket arm, Asda, said on Thursday it had discovered horse DNA in its beef bolognese sauce and was withdrawing that product and three others from its stores.
"We have a preliminary test result that suggests the presence of horse DNA in our 500g Beef Bolognese sauce. As you'd expect, we have withdrawn this product from our shelves," Asda spokeswoman Jo Newbould said. Asda has about 550 shops across the UK.
Last month, Asda withdrew four burger products after they were found to contain trace levels of horse DNA. The burgers were supplied by Silvercrest, which had also sold Tesco and other grocers beef burgers containing horse meat.
Separately on Thursday, Irish supplier Rangeland Foods said it was withdrawing its frozen burger products after discovering that some contained 5 percent to 30 percent horse meat. Rangeland supplies frozen burgers to restaurants, pubs, caterers and fast food chain Supermac's.
Britain's Food Standards Agency (FSA) said on Thursday that six horses slaughtered in the UK that tested positive for the drug phenylbutazone were exported to France and may have entered the human food chain.
The drug known as bute is a common anti-inflammatory painkiller for sporting horses, but it is banned for animals intended for eventual human consumption because of concerns that it poses a health risk to humans.

Lord Lucas on the threat from Amazon
From Nick Shaxson
Take a look at Lord Lucas in Britain’s parliament, talking very frankly about Amazon. This is scary stuff. Some excerpts:
Take a look at Lord Lucas in Britain’s parliament, talking very frankly about Amazon. This is scary stuff. Some excerpts:
Amazon is an amoral monopsony in its growth phase. It is using extremely low margins to drive market share. It is using aggressive tax avoidance to afford those low margins. It is not just us that it does not pay tax to; it does not pay tax to anybody. We now have nowhere to shop on a large scale. The internet retailers have control and the internet retailer that will have control above all is Amazon.
Suppliers will then become dependent on the one retailer. It is clear where Amazon intends to go after that: it intends to take out the publishers.
It is already doing that in the States, forming its own relationships with authors and publishing its own exclusive-to-Amazon books.
At the end of the day, what need has a company with three-quarters of the book trade of independent publishers? It can do everything itself.
It will continue to use a wide range of predatory tactics to do that.
Amazon trawls the web to make sure that it always offers the lowest price on anything. It compels suppliers to charge it less than they do anybody else, on pain of being dropped-either individual projects or entirely.
It runs this thing called Amazon Marketplace, where little traders can go, but it knows everything that happens in that marketplace: all communications between a business and its customers, what is being sold and at what price.
When it sees a good opportunity, it goes to the supplier and undercuts the trader.
Exclusive: Now water companies are caught avoiding tax
British water companies are avoiding millions of pounds in tax by loading themselves up with debt listed on an offshore stock exchange, an investigation has revealed.
The disclosure is likely to reignite the public outcry about legal tax avoidance by big firms at a time when Britain is drowning in debt and suffering painful public spending cuts.
It comes only a week after industry regulator Ofwat announced that water bills would rise by an average of 3.5 per cent to £388 a year.
Corporate Watch found six UK water companies took high-interest loans from their owners through the Channel Islands stock exchange. Interest payments on the loans reduce taxable profits in the UK and, thanks to a regulatory loophole, go to the owners tax free.
Corporate Watch found that some £3.4bn had been borrowed by the six companies using this method. It highlights Northumbrian Water as "the most brazen case", as it paid 11 per cent interest on just over £1bn of loans it has taken from its owner, the Cheung Kong group, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate run by Li Ka-shing, the world's ninth-richest person.
The Treasury considered closing the loophole last year, questioning the way companies were using it, but decided against it. The report also found that Britain's 19 water company bosses were paid almost £10m in combined salaries and other bonuses in 2012.
The huge levels of debt used by the industry overall to finance its operations are also costing UK consumers £2bn a year more than if it was publicly financed – equating to nearly £80 per household.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Arrested: Activist Defends Keystone Pipeline Protest At White House (VIDEO)
From Huff Post Green
A day after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was arrested during a climate change rally outside the White House, the environmental activist joined HuffPost Live to defend his protest against the Keystone XL pipeline.
Kennedy, who is president of the Waterkeeper Alliance and a senior attorney for the National Resources Defense Council, told HuffPost Live's Jacob Soboroff that he and other opponents believe the project is "the worst project that we've seen come along in our lifetime."
"The oil industry last year had pure profits of $100 billion," Kennedy said. "They are the richest private entities of mankind. We've never seen anything like this and they're exercising political power."

Walmart Workers Are Back on Strike Over a New Wave of Alleged Threats
From The Nation
For the first time since November’s Black Friday walkout, US Walmart retail workers are out on strike.
At noon, half a dozen workers in Laurel, Maryland, walked off the job in protest of alleged retaliation by Walmart management. They were joined by Lancaster, Texas, Walmart employee Colby Harris, a fellow activist with the labor group OUR Walmart.
After delivering a letter to their store manager, and protesting with supporters outside the Laurel Walmart, the workers filed new charges with the National Labor Relations Board alleging illegal intimidation by the retail giant.
“What inspired me” to strike, Harris told The Nation, “was the fact that Walmart’s still using those same tactics to try to silence workers.” Walmart did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Wow, half a dozen? And no pictures of the crowd?
The point being that however many are taking part, the Walmart workers are waking up to the fact they have a voice and are stronger for banding together and using it, as stated below from Huff Post Business.
"This is really the beginning of a tipping point where workers in many aspects of Walmart's company -- whether warehouses or stores -- are starting to understand that they do have a voice," Schlademan said. "If I'm Walmart, I'm afraid of that."

House Of Jacob Rothschild Hoarding Gold In Face Of Coming Collapse?
“Many economists project that, following the crashes of the Euro and the dollar, a return to gold-backed currencies would appear as a world trend.
This is only natural, as the fiat currency concept would have been shown to be the farce that it is.”
For this reason, Thomas argued, the hoarding of gold is being done with the aim of redistributing it later on to those nations (or supra-nations, such as the EU and China) the elite have destined to be the future global engines after the old one has been discarded:
“It is entirely possible that all currencies could receive a shake-up, and an entire worldwide system of gold-backed currencies may develop. If this were to occur, the countries that held the largest amounts of gold at that time would be out in front economically.”
A recent appointment of Rothschild as “financial advisor” by the Board of Directors of gold exploration company Spanish Mountain Gold is yet another unmistakable indication that the ancient family is moving the world’s gold supply to both “emerging markets” and Central Banks worldwide, strengthening the family’s monopoly position when the fiat-based house of cards comes crashing down in the West

Thousands attend debt burden marches across the country
Thousands of people have taken part in protests organised by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in a number of cities across the country.
Debt burden marches took place in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Sligo, Limerick and Waterford.
ICTU said over 110,000 people took part in the demonstrations. However, local and garda estimates put the number at around 50,000.
The largest event took place in Dublin, where gardaí said up to 25,000 people took part.
Mr Begg told the crowd that they would be campaigning with the 60 million trade union members in the European Trade union confederation.
He said the situation where Irish people were paying 42% of the European banking debt burden was not fair.

The most-storied warrior tribe in Ecuador prepares to fight as the government sells gold-laden land to China
“We have been coming to these sacred cascades since before the time of Christ,” said Ankuash, preparing a palm-leaf spread of melon and mango. “The government has given away land that is not theirs to give, and we have a duty to protect it.

United We Are More Powerful Than if We Are Divided
We see it, you see it, we all see it! As we continue to gain more awareness as a collective there seems to be a segregation forming between those who are “waking up” you could say.
We all have different ideas of what the truth is and what must be included in new plans of moving forward and creating a new world.
Some of us have differences with consciousness stuff, some with things about health, others with aspects of the government and some about things like religion and beliefs.
Either way we look at it, there is a level of right fighting and nit picking that seems to be happening more and more as we become more aware of what is going on.
Unite and WAKE UP. Wake up to what's going on, the lies being told to us to keep us fighting each other, rather than to turn and stand together against them, the 'elite'.

NYC School Bus Strike, Wall Street and the NLRB
From Common Dreams
Despite assurances that 'sharing the sacrifice' necessary as a result of the 2008 economic collapse is the patriotic duty of every American, the latest challenge to that burden-sharing philosophy are the school bus drivers, matrons and mechanics of Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1181, the country's largest transit union with 8,800 members in New York City.
On strike since January 16, the walkout was provoked when Mayor Michael Bloomberg withheld a court-ordered Employee Protection Provision (EPP) from Department of Education bids for upcoming school bus contracts.
In place since 1979, the EPP guarantees each employee a job regardless of which company wins the bid by requiring the company to hire current workers based on seniority.
Without the EPP in force, the privately owned bus companies will be able to cut wages and benefits as they replace experienced, trained personnel with minimum wage workers who lack the necessary CPR training or other required certifications.

Idle No More Protest Retraces History in Montreal Streets
The protest marked the 250th anniversary of the signing of Treaty of Paris, which recognized native treaty rights to land when it outlined France’s forfeiting of its North American territories to England.
Calling it more of a “walk” than a demonstration, Dupuis said retracing history was the major focus of the event.
An all-ages group of demonstrators supporting the Idle No More movement weaved through downtown Montreal by the dozens Sunday afternoon.

2 Years in Jail for Sitting on a Milk Crate? The Shocking Ways America Punishes Poor People Living on the Street (Hard Times, USA)
Laws all over the country are designed solely to target the homeless. There are better solutions.
There are more than one million homeless people in America and 138 million people who live paycheck to paycheck. Many more are struggling, wondering how they'll make rent or get enough food. Those numbers are astounding.
This is America.
Many proudly think our society is fair, but the evidence overwhelmingly shows that fairness in America is a myth. In the weeks and months ahead, AlterNet will shine more light on America's economic injustice in an ongoing series.
We are launching our ongoing series with two articles today: Part 1, below, looks at how America punishes poor people living on the street, part of a larger pattern of dealing with poverty through criminalization rather than social and policy fixes that have been shown to work better.
Part 2 addresses the growing apathy toward the plight of the poor, after decades of conservative demonization. As the gap between the wealthy and the poor keeps growing, there is a sense that more and more people don't want to deal with the poor.
Is that how you want our society to be? What's your role? It's time to rethink poverty.

Owned & Operated - A film about Humanity and the World we've built for Ourselves
A new, Zeitgeist-inspired documentary, titled 'Owned & Operated'. The film takes a look at the world as it is, and the path we're currently headed down, as well as the world-wide awakening that's begun to take place.
The film ends on a cautiously optimistic view of the future, and attempts to show us that the human race is not just a wasted experiment.

Following the Money: Who’s in Control?
Political, Media, Food, Education, Health, Energy and Financial industries are now under intense scrutiny as people continue to let go of fear, speak up and ask more questions.
Can we really separate these industries if they are all operated by the same people? How can we separate the medical, food and pharmaceutical industries when they are all funded and headed by the same families and multinational organizations?
How can we disregard comments and research conducted from insiders that have turned to the side of truth?
If cancer cures, clean energy technologies, and other information is being suppressed, who are the ones doing the suppressing and why?

94 Days After Sandy 1900 Homes are Still Without Heat, Power and Water
Daisy Luther, Contributor
There are still more than 1900 homes in New York and New Jersey that are without utilities of any kind in the prolonged wake of Superstorm Sandy.
Some families are getting assistance from FEMA and going to hotels, which they must leave every two weeks, go and apply for more vouchers and then check back in to the hotel.
Others are sleeping in tents.
Still others have remained in storm damaged homes without electricity, water or heat.

David Icke – Turning of the Tide [1996] (lecture)
It's a little old, but relevant. He's been called a fruit cake, a nut case and many other things, but isn't that what 'they' want people to think free thinking, forward thinking, open and awake individuals to be?
Exposing the real story behind global events, which shape the future of human existence and the world we leave our children.
The veil lifts on an astonishing web of interconnected manipulation to reveal that the same few people, secret societies and organizations control the daily direction of our lives, and how the same people on apparently different sides of politics are actually connected to the same elite organizations.
These organizations have the same proven agenda of a world government, a world central bank, a world army, a world currency, and some say a micro-chipped population. “OPPO-SAMES” These apparent opposites in politics are there to persuade us that we are not living in a prison, that we have a choice.
Yet these persons are not opposites at all but are part of a one-party state. The last two US Presidents were apparently opposites and on different sides – Bill Clinton and George Bush – yet they were both heavily involved within the same elite organizations.
David Icke explains: “What happens in practice is that if you look at all the dogmas in all cultures, all societies have what I call a ‘hassle-free zone.’ It is that area within any culture, within each dogma (religious, economic, political etc) wherein if you conform to it, you are in the comfort zone. No one’s going to laugh at you, condemn you for being different, or for expressing your uniqueness, because you are locked into the herd mentality, and you are conforming to what you are told you should be and do.
When you step out of this mind-set and express your unique aspect of all that exists and refuse to be frightened, or controlled, you immediately face ridicule or condemnation as I have in England.”
“THE SHEEPLE” “Whatever happened to living? The vast majority of people, rich and poor, on this planet are enslaved. Enslaved by the system’s robotic programming, its economic imprisonment, and by their own refusal to think, question and find the liberation that comes with an open mind.
We don’t live in a free society, we live as robots in a society in which you are free to do what the society wants you to do – produce and consume – that’s the reality.
